Boyce, Sonia

Dame Sonia Boyce, born 1962, is a British artist, living and working in London. Her work is political in nature, focussing on issues of racial prejudice and discrimination. Boyce was elected as a Royal Academician in 2016.  In 2022 she was the first black woman to represent Britain at the Venice Biennale, with her exhibition Feeling Her Way, which was awarded the Golden Lion prize. She was made a DBE in the 2024 New Year Honours for services to art. Boyce is currently Professor of Fine Arts at Middlesex University and Professor of Black Art and Design at the University of the Arts, London.
